Ikono Local Government Area witnessed a significant milestone in its development journey with the official commissioning of transformative constituency projects facilitated by the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.
The projects underscored his unwavering commitment to delivering meaningful dividends of democracy and improving the lives of the people especially at the grassroots level.
The Senate President was ably represented by his wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, who performed the commissioning ceremony.
In her remarks, she reaffirmed Senator Akpabio’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for approving constituency projects for members of the National Assembly.
She noted that the initiative has enabled lawmakers to deliver impactful projects that are improving lives and accelerating development across their constituencies.
Dr. Akpabio urged the people of Ikono Local Government Area to continue supporting the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, and Governor Umo Eno, PhD, to sustain the ongoing pace of peace, unity, and development.
She emphasized that the commissioned projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to grassroots development and reaffirmed Senator Akpabio’s resolve to continue attracting impactful projects that will improve the lives of the people.
Among the projects commissioned were the installation of a transformer at the General Hospital, Ikono; the installation of another transformer along the Calabar–Itu Road; the construction of Ndiya Road with solar-powered street lights; and the construction of Ukpom Ita Road linking Nkwot Ikot Umo and Ikot Nseyen.
Welcoming the Senate President’s delegation, the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area, Hon. Otoobong Essien, expressed profound appreciation to Senator Akpabio, for the numerous constituency projects attracted to the area.
She assured that the people of Ikono would reciprocate the gesture by giving overwhelming support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno, and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The commissioning ceremony attracted government officials, political stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups, as well as residents from across Ikono Local Government Area, who applauded Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio for his unwavering commitment to grassroots development.
They described the projects as timely interventions that will improve the quality of life, stimulate economic growth, and further strengthen public confidence in responsive and people-centred leadership.
Ahead of the project commissioning, Dr. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, paid a courtesy visit to the Paramount Ruler of Ikono Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Etim Nnana Itang, to receive royal blessings.
The monarch commended the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, for his developmental strides and offered prayers for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, strength, and protection upon him as he continues to serve the nation.
