RURAL ELECTRIFICATION: SENATOR BASSEY TO CONNECT OVER 20 COMMUNITIES IN AKWA IBOM NORTH-EAST

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has commenced the electrification intervention in more than 20 communities across the district.

Senator Bassey disclosed this on Thursday while taking delivery of 500KVA and 300KVA distribution transformers, aluminum bare conductors and other electrical installation accessories procured for the project.

Speaking through his Special Assistant, Unyime Jonah, during the delivery of the equipment, the Senator said the intervention was aimed at expanding electricity access to communities that were either without power or had lost supply following the vandalisation of electrical infrastructure.

He said was complementing the power-sector interventions of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

The Senator commended Governor Eno for strengthening village youth structures, saying the initiative would enhance community ownership and help curb the vandalism of public infrastructure.

He said, “In addition to this electrification project, we are currently executing solar-powered streetlight projects, solar-powered boreholes, as well as the construction and renovation of classroom blocks across the senatorial district.”

Senator Bassey further expressed confidence that the intervention would contribute to improving economic and social activities in the beneficiary communities, particularly by supporting small businesses, education, and other livelihood activities that depend on electricity.

He also commended the State Government for its development efforts and urged residents of the senatorial district to support initiatives aimed at accelerating infrastructure development across the state.

The project is expected to cover more than 20 communities across the nine local government areas of the District.
